I received Flight AND Metamorphosis from FishFlix.com for this review. I watched these DVDs with my children (ages 4, 6, and 8), we watch documentaries a lot (especially animal ones) and they typically enjoy them.
These movies had beautiful cinematography! My 4 year old (the animal loving one) was most interested, and this was due to the beautiful shots! My other 2 came back and forth with it. There is a lot of talking in the films (particularly metamorphosis) and for their age group it was a bit dry. But, I found them fascinating, and they would be great for older middle school/high school aged children/teens.
The are each an hour long, which is why they didn’t fully keep my kids attentions. I was aware when I got these movies that they were geared for older kids though, so that is not affecting my review in any way. I just wanted to point out that they are definitely geared towards older kids.
What I loved most about these films is that they really are geared towards the sense that all things point to a creator! Even though they are very science based, they are creation based.
I loved how in both videos they had inside views….inside a chrysalis and inside an egg. You are able to see the changes as they take place. What is not usually seen by the eye is shown to you in these DVDs and it’s FASCINATING!
We raised Monarch caterpillars, and it was so fun to watch them change…in Metamorphosis we got to see what was always left to us as a mystery. They discuss some pretty high level science topics cell changes, etc…. (which is another reason it’s more suited to older kids/adults). But the way they explain it is amazing! This video also touches base on the Monarch migration. This is something I have seen first hand and it is such a phenomenon! My kids also found it interesting.
I love how their stance is that all things prove there is a GOD!
Flight was also a great video. The information about how birds are designed, their feather make up, their wings. All very, very interesting! And again it points out that these things were not an accident, they didn’t happen by chance…they were designed! Love it!
These are very informative, though provoking, beautiful, inspirational, spiritually based videos! They would be a great addition to a Middle School/High School Biology study!
