Softly & Tenderly Book Review

This book is a great clean read (I’m always looking for clean reads).  A story of Jade who is married to Max, trying to live her very own ‘happily ever after’.  But she soon discovers things are not always what they seem, and ‘happily ever after’ is only what you make of it.

Aching to have a family of her own, Jade has been unable to have children, and later comes to find that her husband, Max, has an illegitimate child which he has kept secret from her their entire marriage!

This book teaches that we all have our problems, but what we choose to do with those problems, makes all the difference.

Book Review - The Soul Reader by Gerard D. Webster

From reading other reviews, I came to know that this book was part of a sequel, however, it stands on its own, not having read the first book, I was able to follow along just fine.  Several references are made to the previous plot, keeping the reader up to date as to how the previous story relates.

The main character, Ward, has been given a gift to be able to read people’s souls (as the title implies).  Seen as curse at times, the ‘gift’ proves itself as a blessing in more ways than one.

In the Soul Reader, Ward is collaborating on a book project with his ex-girlfriend, Carrie. The subject of research is a dangerous one; there have been many mysterious deaths in connection with the topic of interest.  Ward and Carrie are no exception to the danger, though Carrie is somewhat naïve on the matter.

The Soul Reader has an unpredictable plot loaded with romance, action, and faith.  All of which make it an enjoyable suspense/thriller.  The book is clean and has some Catholic religious references.  (There is one use of foul language, but nothing to over the top.)

I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

Book Review - A Place Called Blessing by John Trent

A Place Called Blessing by John Trent, Ph.D. is a very uplifting and inspirational story about the life of a young boy who grew up in the foster care system.  When Josh is 5, he and his two brothers lose their parents in a car accident. Following his life from a young child through adulthood; the reader is taken on a journey of overcoming obstacles and facing feelings of inadequacy, mistrust and unworthiness.  This journey, 'where hurting ends and love begins', paints a picture of the ‘five essential elements’ as laid out in The Blessing, leading the reader on an emotionally healing journey of their own.  A self help book of sorts, but a great fiction read as well.  The principles taught in this book can be applied in many aspects of life.
It's a feel good, tear jerking story that shows the important roles that God, love and forgiveness play in our lives.  There are discussion questions for each chapter at the end of the book; making it a great book club read or a more thought provoking self read.
I definitely recommend this book, particularly for those trying to overcome past heartaches, on their own healing journey or who want an uplifting story to enjoy.

This book serves as a companion to Dr Trent's book The Blessing; however, A Place Called Blessing can stand on its own as well.
