This series is going to have a lot of state specific field trip ideas, but here is a great list of field trips you can find almost everywhere!
Farms – Check out your closest farm, or even farmers market! We have several farms within an hour of driving time. Some do tours, some don’t. But the kids always have fun! Many also have Pick your own programs. We have picked peaches, strawberries, blueberries…yum!
Grocery Stores – Many grocery stores have educational programs/tours for school (and homeschool) groups. This tour was at a Martin’s Store, give your local store a call and see if they have something to offer!
Pizzerias/Bakeries – I know that Pizza Hut and California Pizza Kitchen have educational programs, check your local pizzeria or bakery to see if they can do a program for you!
Ice Cream Parlors – Sweet Frog did a field trip for us, I’m sure other ice cream places would be willing to work something out for you as well!
Fire Department (or Police Department) – Local fire departments typically have educational programs
Home Depot/Lowes – Check your local store for FREE kids workshops! They also do group field trips!
Bowling – can we say Physics? and PE? Why not??!!
Historical Society – Learn about your town/states history!
Geocaching/Letterboxing – this is a growing trend and most places have one or the other or both! It’s so much fun! What kid doesn’t like to hunt for treasures?? Want to have even more fun? Plant your own registered box to find!
Library – Check out what your local library has to offer! Talk to them about offering homeschool activities (if they don’ t already). Our local library has a ton of great stuff during the summer, and a once a month homeschool class during the school year.
