  1. The best tip I ever received was to make LIFE your classroom. Find a way to make lessons out of everyday living. For example grocery shopping can teach math, science, history, spelling, health (nutrition) and budgeting.

I know you only asked for one tip but something else that has served me well was to take my child's interests and let him/her explore different aspects of that topic.

My oldest was obsessed with extreme sports. Instead of discouraging him, I turned it into a unit study by creating my own lessons (a little internet research and a library card can go a long way these days). Art, math, history, science, spelling....you name it! You can find lessons for almost every topic you can think of.

Capitalizing on your child's strengths while encouraging them to develop their areas of weakness is not always easy, but it is worth it in the long run :)

  2. I try to find ways to make the information "real" to my children, whether it's through a field trip, hands-on activity, or a documentary.

  3. My best tip for teaching creatively: Allow mistakes and explore them together so the kids can come up with their own solutions.

  5. I try to incorporate the topic into everything we do even what food we are eating! It can be fun and a great way to learn.

  6. I don't really know how to teach creatively! I'd love to learn more on how to though!

  7. Best way to teach creatively is to get your students involved! If you are tailoring your units to include and support their interests, you can't help but be creative!

  8. To me, teaching creatively means teaching in a way that is understandable to the child even though it may not be conventional...I have twins- a boy and a girl and at 2 and a half, I already see differences in their learning

  9. We always give the kids access to creative tools: pens, papers, paints, etc. We let them build and design and create all day -- and only when they grow bored, do we do more structured school activities.
