Passport United Kingdom is the first in a new series of Unit Studies by Amanda Bennett. We received the Scout version, for grades
K-6, (my son is 5) to review.
We really enjoyed this unit study. It is well organized, very easy to use and follow along with. There is no need to print it out (except for the lapbooking materials). I would suggest going to the science and food section to make a list of needed materials if you plan to do the projects, though most of the required materials are common household objects/ingredients. There is a list of suggested texts at the beginning of the unit, to further enrich your learning. But really very little prep is required.

Each days unit lasts about 2hrs and incorporates Geography, Science, Math, Writing, Reading, Art (mostly architecture), Bible and History. Each days lesson includes links to videos, pictures and written text to make it seem as if you’ve really been there. Even my 2yo enjoyed watching the videos and pretending he was on a plane, a boat or hiking a mountain! (The 2hrs does not include the cooking project or science experiment/projects)
For us the 2hrs of lesson time was a bit much, so I tried to break it up during the day. In the future (when not on a review timeline) I will most likely space a unit, such as this one, out over 2 weeks. I think it was just too much information for him to absorb in one sitting at his age. Also my son is not writing a lot yet and he does not enjoy coloring, so the hands on aspect of this lesson were not suited for him, which I think contributed to the ‘to long’ feeling. But we added some of our own aspects, and the cooking and science projects are great hands-on aspects toot! (We love learning with food, as you may have noticed with our state study posts!) Also a note to myself, I need to clear off the computer desk to minimize other distractions!
I have always wanted to visit the UK, and after this review want to even more!
After all is said and done, I definitely recommend the Passport Series. This is the second Unit Study by Amanda Bennett we have used, and I have several more that I plan to incorporate into our studies! They offer a wide variety of topics, for all ages/grades.
For a limited time Unit Studies by Amanda Bennett has offered my readers a 50% discount on the purchase of Passports United Kingdom k-12 COMBO PACK. Use the link above or in my sidebar, with the code GetUK21 now through 10/21.

I am hoping to get our review done next weekend. We are working on the unit study this week. I have been to the UK so I cannot wait to show the kids my pictures. I am glad I saw you had a link up!
ReplyDeleteNot sure what I am doing wrong but I tried to enter the code and I followed your directions but the discount code says invalid. :(
