Review: The Day After Christmas and Dragon Rider, by: Brian Bowers (Book Review)

bowers books

The Day After Christmas -

This is a short story/poem about the woes of ‘after Christmas’ from a parents perspective.  Told in rhyme; it’s enjoyable by both adults and kids…but for different reasons.  It is illustrated by hand drawings.  It ends on a really great note that really shows the true meaning of Christmas.  A great story for all ages!  This book is available in paperback for $10 or kindle edition for $1.99 or free with Kindle Unlimited.  This would make a fun stocking stuffer gift next Christmas!

DRAGON RIDER -

This also is a rhyming story, would make a great early reader book or read aloud for story time.  Only two sentences per page, but filled with fun!  The pictures, like The Day After Christmas, are hand drawn.  A boy takes a magical journey on his dragon and visits lots of places before return home to bed and drifting off to dream.  What little boy doesn’t dream of flying off on a magical dragon?  A great short, but sweet bedtime tale…or anytime story! This book is on sale no in paperback for $9 or kindle edition for $1.99.  A great gift for any child with a great imagination!

Colors for Tots–RED

Just in time for Valentine’s Day I am starting my Colors for Tots series with RED!!

red

Baby Girl or K (I refer to her as both) is now 15mos!  This last month we have been playing with RED!!

Here are some great ideas for introducing RED to your toddler.  Follow each month as I share ideas for introducing colors and teaching about COLORS!!  Next month is GREEN!

Discovery Basket

2015-01-15 12.11.18

I found a bunch of RED items and put them in a basket for her to explore.  Red blocks, Red stringing Blocks, red pom poms, Red attribute blocks, red manipulatives (bugs), Red, Red, Red!

For Valentine’s Day (and not pictured) I also added a red heart bracelets, red plastic heart necklace and red heart sunglasses (all from The Dollar Tree).

Discovery Bottles

Red Glitter Bottle
2015-01-15 09.53.20
Made from Clear Glue, some water and red glitter (I used larger and finer glitter).  The finer falls slower!

2015-01-21 09.33.48
The far left is plastic red hearts in a mix of baby shampoo and water (so they fall slower), the middle is the glitter bottle and the far right is red water beads!  I also put some small red plastic beans into a small spice jar (pictured in the basket picture at the top).  Made for a fun shaker too!

Art Collage

I got this great Color Art Collage from Alex Toys Jr on Amazon.  I got it on sale for $6, so it was well worth the cost in my opinion, full price is a tad much.  Keep an eye out for another sale!

Light Table

The sensory bottles and some other clear blocks and light table items in RED were lots of fun on the light table!

Now is a great time to find lots of fun red items at places like Dollar Tree to fill your sensory bottles, discovery baskets and for collage items!
