Iowa and Illinois Field Trips (31 Days of Field Trips Series) with Link Up

Iowa

Living History Farms – Homeschool days are held in June and September.  FREE for members, but nonmembers can receive a $1 discount by preregistering online.  Walk-ins are welcome, however. 

Blank Park Zoo – offers homeschool classes, zoo members receive a discounted rate.  They also host a homeschool day on April 22nd (Earth Day). 

The Brenton Arboretum – Homeschool members receive free admission to tours and activities in groups of 10+.  or individuals with membership can pay $1 per activity.  Family membership is $50.

Nahant Marsh Education Center – offers homeschool classes.  You can pay per class or per session, with members receiving a discount.

Iowa Children’s Museum – . Group field trips can be arranged for $5 a child for self-guided field trips.

Iowa State Fair – in the past they have held a Homeschool Day.  You can read about last years event HERE

African American Museum of Iowa – has held homeschool days in the past, though there is no mention of them on the website currently.

Effigy Mounds – FREE – HERE is a link specific for Kids information in regards to the mounds.  Over 200 Indian Mounds are preserved here.

Herbert Hoover National Historic Site – FREE (There is a fee to enter the Museum and Library).  The site includes the Visitor Center,Birthplace Cottage, Blacksmith Shop, Schoolhouse, Friends Meetinghouse, Gravesite, and Tallgrass Prairie.

PUTNAM – Field trips can be arranged.  Admission is $7.50 for 13+ and $6 for ages 3-12.  Education Resource Guides are also available.

Grout Museum District – Educational Programs are available, though no specific homeschool programs are mentioned.  Includes Veterans Museum, Museum of History and Science, Science Imaginarium, Rensselaer Russell House Museum and Snowden House.

Science Center of Iowa – Group rates are available, memberships are also available (including combo memberships with other locations for one price).  Has an IMAX theater on site.

POLK County Conservation – Field Trips are available, though not listed as Homeschool specific.  

Union Pacific Railroad Museum – FREE Gypsy Road School tells all about it!
