T is for Time–Take Time 4U!

time

Being a stay at home mom can be taxing, being a homeschooling mom can be even more so!  Sometimes it is as if we NEVER get a break!

BUT, it is important that we remember to take time for ourselves!

I know it’s easier said then done, but set aside a bit of time each day to relax, read, meditate, exercise…whatever, but some amount of time for you to prepare for or regenerate from the day (or both, if you can!).

Set aside time as often as possible (whether it be weekly, monthly, quarterly) where you do something for YOU and only YOU.  It can be a girls night out, a pedicure, a massage, a crafting day.  It can be whatever you want to do, but do it kid free (unless you have a nursing baby you can’t break away from).   It doesn’t have to cost money, but you do have to have a good time!

Don’t feel guilty about it!  I have heard so many women say they feel guilty for leaving their husbands with the kids, or taking time for themselves.  First of all, your husband is their parent too!  Second of all, you deserve it!

Take time to nurture your marriage.  Now this isn’t just solely for you, but happy marriages help make happy moms!  Continue to date!  Thank your husband kindly for watching the kids, so you could get away a bit!  Unplug for at least one night a week and relax with your husband after the kids are in bed.

Sometimes we just need to be reminded to do something for ourselves, since we are always so busy doing for everyone else!

Do you take regular time for yourself?  What do you do?  If you don’t what would you do if you did?  Share in a comment below, help motivate other moms and give ideas!

Typically every other month I take a girls night out with my girl friends.  In the evenings I like to relax and watch a TV show while my husband gets the kids in bed.  Occasionally I’ll get a pedicure (though it is really rare).  In the past I’ve gone away on scrapbooking retreats 1-2 times a year for 2 nights.  Sometimes my husband will take the kids for a day, and I just relax at home.  Taking a nice long shower, or warm bath.  So how about you?

I have also found that if I get up a little earlier in the morning (it’s impossible to get up before my oldest) and get fully dressed, and make breakfast for the kids…I have a much better day!  I recently invested in some new clothes for myself, something I rarely do.  Looking nice….even if just for myself, has had a huge impact on my attitude!

  1. This has been a big focus for me recently. My nursling is 15 months old and so I can spend more time away from him. I've got a weekly Zumba class - I feel awkward and uncooridinated but I also feel great when I leave! - and some friends and I get together every month or so to learn to crochet. As we move out of Baby Days and into all the little ones being bigger, I am looking forward to self-care being a little bit easier!

  4. I've learned to take time for me on a regular basis. I attend a scrapbook day every other month and get a pedicure pretty regularly. I'm a much better wife and mom when I am not stressed.
I'm stopping by from the 100 Days Challenge. I'm glad to have found another homeschool and crafty blog.

  5. It's so easy to forget about me time. I find men have an easier time at doing that for themselves than women. But i have to remember that me time is important not just for me but for my family too. Maybe if I think of it as something I must do for them I'll be able to get time for myself without feeling guilty.

I found your blog at the Boost Your Blog in 100 Days. Have a wonderful week. Darlene

  6. It is so important to nurture ourselves. I need to make more time to do it on a regular basis. I will be a much better wife and mother, if I do.

    Thanks for the reminder.

    Blessings,
    Angie

  7. I'm neither a homeschooling-mom or a stay-at-home mom because I go to school full-time myself. But regardless of your position, being a parent is hard work and a lot of women don't take enough time for themselves! Which is really important. Great advice!

  8. I always feel guilty having me time, as I feel my husband never gets any time to himself and I try to schedule it in. I got for a run every Saturday morning, and I try to do my crafting and blogging a couple of nights a week since I am on some Design Teams, but my husband seems to work, come home, help with the kids and then on the weekends he will do something with them too. Maybe I need to let him have some time off!

  9. Thank you so much for the reminder. When I do get a few minutes or an hour to myself, I tend to work on lesson plans or clean or something. I need to learn to take a little time just for me. Something to strive for. Thanks again.
