If you have been following my blog you know by now that field trips are our ‘thing’.  We love field trips and aim for one a week (at minimum).  Sometimes places we want to visit are just too far away (especially living on an island…though that is soon changing).  We have recently dabbled a bit into VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS.

Since we are studying space, I decided to look into some virtual space trips.

I found several sites that offer you the space travel ‘experience’.

One site offered FREE DVDs of Virtual Trip to the Moon and Journey to the Stars.  In an attempt to not overwhelm them with Homeschoolers requests for FREE DVDs, he has sent me a large number to give my readers.  I have only a few Field Trip to the Moon DVDS, but LOTS of the Journey to the Stars DVDs.
However – we are moving in a few short weeks…therefore…I will not be offering to mail these out until April.
I will post information on how to get your copy at that point….so be sure to follow me (if you don’t already) so that you can get the information on how to request the DVD, at that time I will give you the link to the learning guides that go with them.
It will be FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE!

Other virtual trips we have found:

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory

Space Wander

H.R. MacMillan Space Centre – this one is at a cost, held via Skype; would be best for a group.

Now I’d love you to link up your field trips…virtual or otherwise!

    1. Virtual field-trips is a great idea! I've heard of them before but didn't think to really search for them to use in place of us actually being able to visit.

Since we are into our 4th yr of homeschooling I've REALLY slacked on field trips activity. I'm going to consider adding this to our homeschooling. Thank you for the tip!

Found you via the 100 days to Boost our blog.

    2. Hi Jen! I'm also participating in the BYB challenge and found your blog via Something2Offer. This is such a great idea! My son is still waaay too young to understand things like this, but it's such a wonderful way to keep school fun!

    5. We are currently studying Astronomy so those DVDs would be great. I'll have to come back.

I have not done any virtual field trips. Will have to consider doing this.

      Visiting from 100 Challenge!

    6. Hi Jen, I am another BYB challenge blogger. My name is Kelly and I think this virtual field trip is an amazing idea! I am so glad that there is this challenge to meet other bloggers because we are all unique in our own ways and have a lot to offer each other! Thank you for the information!

    8. We haven't done any virtual field trips as of yet, I hadn't really thought about it until this Blog Round-Up. However, I am loving the idea. We use our computer to watch videos of the different animals we are learning about. Hmm, if we are watching animals in Africa, would that have been considered a Virtual Field Trip? Just thought of that (sorry, I'm rambling)
Anyhow, I hope to remember about the copies of those DVD's when the time comes. I am a tad forgetful lately. They sound great and would be perfect for when we are doing our space units again. Thanks for sharing.
