In honor of Donut Day I wanted to take the kids to Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme to get our free donuts...yeah, well....they have them in Hawaii...just not on Oahu. So I decided, why not make our own! I found this
recipe on allrecipes.com and it seemed easy enough (and it really was). I halved the recipe and I mixed the dough in my bread-maker. I think I had the oil to hot, because they got pretty dark and the thicker batches didn't get cooked all the way through (luckily that was only 2 of them). But they turned out really yum and the kids had fun with it as well. The reviews claim they are just like Krispy Kreme donuts, and I have to say...they are pretty close!

We didn't have a donut cutter, so we raided the play-dough tools. |

So now for the update on the baby bird! He is alive and well!! (Thank goodness!). Q looked up online what to feed the little guy (after catching some cockroaches..if you've been to HI, you know they are everywhere..and feeding them to him), turns out it was suggested to feed him water soaked dog chow. So that's what we have been doing and he is doing great!! Q thinks he recognizes my voice, b/c he'll start chirping away when I am in the room. The little guy eats non-stop all day....worse than a newborn! But I'm really glad he seems to be doing so well. He likes to be held too, I think he is lonely in his little box all day by himself.

OoOoOh, I think Travis will like the donut recipe. We'll have to try it out. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteP.S. We've considered opening our own Krispie Kreme's out here. I think we could make bank out here, because they're used a lot for fundraisers, but the closest one is in Maui...But it would also require a lot of capital up front, too.
