Lisa @ Our 4 Kiddos   It had been sometime since we last went to the water park here in Hawaii.  Once my youngest (well then my youngest before baby came) started walking, it was just too hard to play 3 to 1 when water was involved!  But they made me promise that we would go before leaving the islands…and we did!
C was big enough to ride all but one ride, Z rode several, and c loved hanging out in the kiddie section!  Luckily I had the hubby and my mom with us, so I just hung with baby girl!   It was overcast, and the water was COLD!  brrr!  It was one of the few things that the kids asked to do before leaving the island, that and buying some pickled mango!

Lisa @ Our 4 Kiddos   We hiked Makapu’u Lighthouse. It’s a great place to see whale’s during the winter migration.  We also hit the nearby tide pools (directly across from the Sea Life Park Exit, enter parking lot and go to the left). Had great company from some friends.

Lisa @ Our 4 Kiddos   The hubby took the kids on a long, muddy hike (4miles round trip) to Ka’ena Point.  It’s a great place to go and see Hawaiian Monk Seals and Albatross.   It was on his Hawaii bucket list, and our days here are numbered.

  If you have been following my blog you know by now that field trips are our ‘thing’.  We love field trips and aim for one a week (at minimum).  Sometimes places we want to visit are just too far away (especially living on an island…though that is soon changing).  We have recently dabbled a bit into VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS.    Since we are studying space, I decided to look into some virtual space trips.   I found several sites that offer you the space travel ‘experience’.   One site offered FREE DVDs of Virtual Trip to the Moon and Journey to the Stars.  In an attempt to not overwhelm them with Homeschoolers requests for FREE DVDs, he has sent me a large number to give my readers.  I have only a few Field Trip to the Moon DVDS, but LOTS of the Journey to the Stars DVDs. However – we are moving in a few short weeks…therefore…I will not be offering to mail these out until April.  I will post information on how to get your copy at that point….so be sure to follow me (if you don’t already) so that you can get the information on how to request the DVD, at that time I will give you the link to the learning guides that go with them. It will be FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE!   Other virtual trips we have found:

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory   Space Wander
H.R. MacMillan Space Centre – this one is at a cost, held via Skype; would be best for a group.   Now I’d love you to link up your field trips…virtual or otherwise!

Kahumana Farms    It’s a gem in the heart of Waianae It has a bed and breakfast, café and lovely farm!

Lisa @ Our 4 Kiddos   This was our first trip to the Windward Community College Imaginarium.  It fit in well with our study of Space.  They had a fun hands on lab that the kids enjoyed before going into the Planetarium and seeing a cute movie about Earth, Sun and Moon.   Only C and I went on this trip (with baby of course), the other two were home sick, C came down with it the following day.

Lisa @ Our 4 Kiddos     So everyone was a bit under the weather lately, so we didn’t get to go on an actually field trip, BUT I did recently buy this telescope used from another Homeschooler.  We gave it a try at the moon, and it was really cool!  Not bad for $25!

I got a great reminder on one of the benefits of homeschooling this week…I made the mistake of going to the museum when the public school kids were on fall break….and it was opening week for the LEGO exhibit!   ahh!

Needless to say, we didn’t stay long, since we have season passes, we will go back later…but the kids did have some fun for about an hour.

C fell in love with the Lego Titanic!!
