My kids had a blast using the Faith Builders Bible from Zonderkidz for this review.  God and Legos, how can you go wrong?

The Faith Builders Bible is written in New International Reader’s Version.  So it’s written in a language that allows kids to more easily understand it. The book includes many photographs, in Lego style, for kids to duplicate or create on their own.

This is a FULL bible, Genesis to Revelations with 1144pages, 24 of which are illustrated building pages.   

How We Used it

Here are some of the scenes my kids recreated:

Moses and the 10 Commandments, built by C (9 yo)


Last Supper and The Sacrifice of Isaac by Abraham, built by Z (6 yo)

My kids preferred to just flip through the Bible and pick out scenes to recreate, we would then read the stories and discuss them.  So, this is how we used it. 

There are lots of ways one could use this Bible.  Incorporate it into your daily Bible study, each building scene has a building block verse that would be great for memorization and/or copy work, Memorize the books of the Bible by making Lego stacking blocks (this is illustrated in the beginning of the book). 

As you see, some builds are simple and others are more involved.  My kids liked to retell the stories that they built.  This provided even further learning. 

My Thoughts

I wish that there would have been more Lego build pages in the book, that was slightly disappointing.  It’s a big book, 1144 pages, and only 24 build pages.   In true Bible fashion, the pages are also really thin, which lead to several tears as my kids flipped through the pages.  (The build pages are thicker).  Thicker pages would have been nice, since this is a kid’s Bible and is being used by kids. 

As a family, we prefer the King James Version of the Bible, but for Bible story purposes, other versions are fine.   The chapters and verses of the books do not correlate from this version to the KJV.   For instance, Leviticus 18, is chapter 20 in the KJV.  Speaking of Leviticus 18, in the Faith Builders Bible, it directly states “Do Not Commit Sexual Sins”, and goes on for 24 verses repeating the word ‘sex’ in each verse.  Just a warning, while I know these things are commandments, you may not be quite ready to discuss the meaning of ‘sex’ with your younger children, just yet. 

Overall, I was really hoping for more.  While I think this is a great option for a children’s Bible, I think it would appeal more to older children because of the lack of illustrations and the thin pages.  I would love to see more of a picture Bible for younger children, less words,in a story format with more pictures.

I would recommend this book more around age 10-12 years of age.
