We went to homechool days at Jamestown and Yorktown last week!

Since we are just newly back to the East Coast after 3 years this was our first trip.  It was great…but I did learn a few things that I thought I would share with all of you, who may plan to visit in the future.

First– Plan to spend the entire day (or more) there.  They offer a tour and classes that are great, but they take a good part of the day, and you can’t always spend as much time as you’d like at the exhibits.  You get tickets with your admission that are good for one use several days after (I wish I had known that!).  So plan to spend two days maybe.  My kids were beat after the first day, it would have been nice to spread it out a bit!  We didn’t really see anything that was inside during our visit.  The same goes for Yorktown, though I feel that it was more easily covered in one day (no classes there, just the tour).

Second – Williamsburg ALSO has homeschool days during the same time frame (duh!).  So while you are there, might as well do them both!  We will be making another trip (luckily we are only 3hrs away).

Third – there are lots of places to stay, but Great Wolf Lodge offer Homeschool rates, and they seem to be cheapest during the Homeschool Days timeframe.

Fourth – If you are local to the surrounding area there is a SUPER GROVER PASS that gets you into several amusement parks on the East Coast, Busch Gardens included.  If you buy at the end of summer, it is good for 1 yr 6mos from purchase!  In addition to Sesame Place and Busch Gardens (VA) it also gets you into these parks SeaWorld® (FL, TX, CA), Busch Gardens® (FL), Aquatica SeaWorld's Waterpark™ (FL,TX,CA), Water Country USA® (VA), Adventure Island® (FL). It seems to pay for itself after about 5 visits to any of the parks (this was just at a quick glance of admission prices).

Fifth – There is a FREE ferry that’s in Jamestown, we really wanted to do this, but with the kids being SOO exhausted we didn’t fit it in, maybe when we go to Williamsburg in the Spring.

We stayed at the Williamsburg/Colonial KOA and camped in a tent.  It was a bit hot, but we only stayed two nights.  I wish I had realized that the outdoor (heated) pool was still open! But they also had banana bikes and bounce pillows, my kids had a blast (and my DH and I too)! Can you say PE???

We were all exhausted after the two days!  We were going to stay longer, but had to rush home for soccer games and a triathlon on Saturday!
