The University of Hawaii at Manoa had an Open House for their science department, with lots of great hands on fun and learning. We didn’t even get to see the half of it, there was SO MUCH stuff to do.
The Explosions were by far the favorite for my crowd, we watched them several times over.
The first was a stimulation of a volcano. They used liquid nitrogen in a large trashcan of water and balls (to show the different particles in a volcano). You can see the video below:
The second explosion was with dry ice particles. The broke up dry ice into little tiny pieces and put into a little plastic eyedropper, then they sealed it off and placed it into a cup of water, and Boom! The kids left a bit wet, but they loved it. You can see the video below:
While these experiments have materials that may not be easily acquired, there are still lots of fun exploding (and fizzing) experiments you can do at home with more accessible supplies!
One of our favorites is the Coke Geyser! You can find that post HERE.
Some other fun ones we have done:
Alka Seltzer Rockets
Exploding Sandwich Bag
Ones we have still yet to try:
Exploding soap
Fun! Fun! I love getting to enjoy field trip events like this!
