Weekly Workboxes

I don’t typically post all that we do in our workboxes each week for my Kindergartener, since most of it is the same.  I only tend to focus on what is different each week, which is generally our theme related items.  So, I figured I’d make a post showing what doesn’t change each week…..

C (5yo K)

Box 1 -  Gospel – Scripture Study (currently the Book of Mormon )

Box 2 – Values - We Choose Virtues, The Friend Magazine

Box 3 – Chinese - Better Chinese

Box 4 – Handwriting - Handwriting Without Tears for Kindergarten

Box 5 – Phonics - Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching your Child to Read, and an Easy Reader book, typically taken from Sonlight’s list of Easy Readers Grade 1 or something that goes with our theme.

Box 6 – Read Aloud – Llama without Pajama and Mother Goose Rhymes, and a Read Aloud Book, either taken from Sonlights Read Aloud List Core A OR a book that goes with our theme.  This is also when we have snack, and is typically our halfway point.  Everyone participates in this, even baby.

Box 7 – 10 Science, Social Studies, etc.. - These are all theme related, and these are typically what I post about in the weekly blog posts.  Box 10 is usually something that C and Z will both participate in.

Box 11 – Math U See – Alpha

On a typical day it takes us between 2-3 hours to complete all the tasks and we take several breaks during the day.

Z has 9 boxes for preschool, these are all theme related and change each week, these are also posted each week.

DIY Color Box 3

I finally completed Color Box 3!  Color Box 3 contains 63 colors representing them in seven graded shades of red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange, brown, pink and gray.
I had plenty of thread holders and there is room in the plastic box to store these along with Box 1 and 2 sets.   I got paint samples in the varying shades (I had to get 2 sheets from each color category to equal the 7 of each shade).  I tried to start with the truest color first and then pick lighter shades from there.
The nine sets to the right are box 3, box 1 & 2 are to the 2 to the left of them.

Valentine’s Day

We are a little late jumping on the Valentine’s Day band wagon, we’ll be doing our themed activities this week, but I wanted to share with all of you what we’ll be doing BEFORE we do it (typically I make my posts the week after).  I’ve got lots of fun stuff up my sleeves and am really excited for this weeks activities.  With all boys in this house, we do not get much PINK, so I went all out!
First off for C (5yo K)  we will be using The Valentine’s Day Unit Study by Amanda Bennett.  Along with some great Math related Valentines Day activities all of which are pinned on my Valentines Day Pinterest Board.  (all in addition to our normal daily routines).  The USAB includes the history of Valentines Day, Valentines Day around the world, and we will be talking about HEARTS (the actual heart that beats inside of us all).  I’ll post more information on what we do with this unit AFTER we complete it.
For Z (34mos)  (some of these activities will also be shared with baby (15mos*) and C (5yo K**) as well).  In addition to the photo activities, we will also be doing some activities from the LETTER V Letter of the Week Curriculum from Confessions of a Homeschooler
