Gruene Historic District (Gruene, TX)– Historical town founded by German immigrants. Visit infamous Gruene Hall were movies have been filmed and famous country singers first got their start. Gristmill Restaurant, cotton gin now turned restaurant. Small town with shopping opportunities
Fredericksburg (Fredericksburg, TX) – Historical town founded by German immigrants. Known for their peaches (in the summer) and wineries (some of the best in the world). Main street houses several restaurants and shops. Several winery tour options and B&Bs are available. The Nest restaurant is a little home turned restaurant; more for an adult date night, higher priced but casual attire with wonderful food (recommend reservations). Museum of the Pacific War – HUGE museum (outside is deceiving); separate location has reenactments (limited schedule). Want to hike? Enchanted rock is the popular place to hike.
DoSeum Children’s Museum (San Antonio, TX) – New 3 story children’s museum
San Antonio Museum of Arts (San Antonio – downtown) – Egyption, Greek, Roman, Latin American & contemporary collections.
Alamo & Riverwalk (San Antonio – downtown) - #1 tourist location in Texas. Right in the middle of downtown; don’t blink or you will miss it. Take a tour via Riverboats on the Riverwalk. Several tourist stores, restaurants and museums. Alamo is FREE
4 Spanish Missions National Park (San Antonio) – Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan, & Espada. Guided or self tours offered. Missions are FREE. Bicycles available for rent to ride the bike trail that connects all the missions. Ranger Badge opportunity
Brackenridge Park (San Antonio) – 343 acres with playgrounds and trails
Witte Museum (San Antonio) - Science treehouse (check out the upstairs anatomy table), Art & Texas heritage, touring and long-term exhibits.
Japanese Tea Garden - Free
Train – (located in front of the Zoo) Open train that takes you on a tour around Brackenridge Park and makes stops at the Jampanese Tea Garden and Witte Museum (can get back on when done).
San Antonio Botanical Gardens – Homeschool classes with minimum of 15 students ($8 per student).
Hill Country Science Museum (Johnson City) – Top of the list for hands on/interactive learning experiences for kids (and adults). Covers STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Provides a variety of hands on exhibits and games then it explains careers that apply. There is so much I could say about this place but you just have to look it up to see what it offers. Don’t let the outside deter you, this once working mill looks small but offers so many great opportunities. There are so many awesome opportunities and variety of STEM experiences. A hidden gem for sure.
SAS Shoe Factory and Store (San Antonio) – Take a tour throughout the San Antonio Shoe Factory to see how these shoes are made. View the founders antique car collection located on the factory grounds. Enjoy the General Store nostalgia that takes you back in time; enjoy authentic ice cream parlor and penny candy.
Toyota Factory (San Antonio) – Plant tours available with reservations then enjoy the Toyota museum afterwards.
Enchanted Springs Ranch (Boerne, TX) – Field Trips available. Western town that has/is used in several movies. Offers chuckwagon dinners, hay rides through the land/wildlife, Old West stories, and Old West playground.
Bandera, TX, aka Cowboy Capital of the World – Cowboy town offers local dude ranches, horseback riding, and chuckwagon meals.
SeaWorld & Fiesta Texas aka Six Flags (San Antonio)
Schlitterbahn (New Braunfels, TX) Water Park
Lyndon B. Johnson Nation Historical Park (Stonewall, TX) – Check out the Sauer-Beckmann Farmstead which is a living and working historical farm presented just like it was in 1918, tours available. Check out the Wildlife while having a picnic at one of the playground sites. Tour the Lyndon Johnson Museum. Ranger Badge Opportunity
Guadalupe River Tubing (throughout the Hill Country, north of San Antonio) – Float along the Guadalupe River while relaxing and enjoying the scenery.
Infamous Buckee’s Truck Stop (throughout Texas)– Known for the cleanest bathrooms at any public restroom. Large truck stop offering a variety of food and souvenir shopping. Recognized by its mascot the Beaver with a red hat in a yellow circle.
