Review: Apologia: Exploring Creation Field Trip Journal (TOS Review)

PicMonkey Collage

For this review we got to check out Exploring Creation Field Trip Journal from Apologia Educational Ministries

This Field Trip Journal is filled with colorful prompt pages to fill out about fun field trips!  It also comes with a secret page and password that is FILLED with all sorts of great Field Trip related links.  Why field trips are Important, Finding field trips, etc…

It’s a really fun way to scrapbook/journal your field trips and nature studies.  I’ll admit, my son (age 8.5) was not nearly as thrilled about it as I was.  Writing is not his favorite thing.  He loves field trips, but if I try to make them ‘educational’ (I have to hide that aspect of them).  We take lots of field trips, but I felt like this book was older than him.

The Field Trip pages have a place to write an Emergency Contact Plan….which made me feel like the user would be old enough to be on their own, of course you don’t have to use that section.  There is a section to list books they have read leading up to the trip, a place to list what they want to see or do there, a place to put the map and put a picture or drawing.  There is also a journal section to write “Story of my day” and “Something I never want to forget”  and of course date and time.

There are 4 pages focused on seasons and your special spot and several more pages that are for nature sketching. It also includes a page about your state, and places visited in the United States and places visited in the world.  It also includes checklists, field trip ideas, and ideas for using the journal.

Exploring Creation Field Trip Journal Review

If you have an artsy child or one that is interested in journaling or scrapbooking, this is definitely a must have!  It takes field trips one step further, and helps get your child involved in the planning and execution of the trip.  It also helps them take the educational aspect one step further!

It’s a great thing to add to your portfolios (if you need one) or just to remember the great places you are blessed to go as homeschoolers!  Field trips are a big deal for us (as you may know if you are a regular reader of the blog).  We aim to do one a week on average.  I love the idea of this notebook and will be hanging on to try and get my son interested in it at a later time.  You can also find field trip ideas each week at Field Trip Friday.

In the meantime, I will definitely continue to put to use the amazing resources made available through the secret website.

You can find sample pages at the website.  This lovely journal is available for purchase for $22.
