P is for Printers, Paper and Laminators– Day 1 of Homeschooling Essentials

printer post

I can not live without my Printer and Paper!!  That’s probably a no-brainer for most homeschoolers, but recently mine broke down!  (and just before it broke down I ran out of paper and had to borrow from a neighbor!  haha)

Anyhow, my previous printer was a Kodak ESP9, and I honestly loved it.  It was an all in one printer (fax, copy, print, scan) and the ink was inexpensive.  It lasted me several years (a little over 4), though I did have to replace the print head once (using generic ink did not bode well with it).  I think the high humidity here in Hawaii killed it in the long run though.

After the printer died, I was looking into buying another one of the same, but decided to do a bit of research and found a LASER printer with EXCELLENT reviews on sale for less than the Kodak!   So I bought it!

I love it so far!  It came with sample toner cartridges, which are still suppose to last for about 1500 copies (Black and white).  The colors are each separate so that you can replace them individually (magenta, blue and yellow).  The color printing is great quality.  You don’t have to worry about the ink bleeding if it gets wet either!

The toner is expensive, but one regular black cartridge prints approx 2500 pages, so it will last a good long while, which makes up for the cost!

Paper of course is another necessity, as well as a laminator.  I buy my paper in bulk at Costco and for my laminator I use a YOURSTORY by Provo Craft (though I think they have been discontinued).

I like the YOURSTORY laminator because you can get 12x18 lamination pouches and laminate file folder games!!  I just buy generic pouches and have not had any issues.

Do you have any favorites for laminators or printers?  What about good deals on paper??

I have a box on the school shelf that I put misprints and other scrap printer paper in for the kids to use for drawing and such.
