Learning isn’t only for our kids – I’ve started a new class!
Well we have been carrying a really light school load this month, (as I mentioned previously), and you may have noticed for the first time since I started actively blogging, I have not put a post up EVERY day this last week. It was hard to do, but with so much going on I needed to allow myself a bit of a break. (But stay tuned for a Geography post on Australia coming soon!!)December is always such a busy month, and well, I’d like to try and focus as much as possible on the true meaning of Christmas, and cut out as many extra stressors as possible.
One of the things that has me busy this month (as if I didn't have enough already! lol) is an online Montessori course I have just started! I was really hesitant to start it up this month, (since I just got done saying how crazy busy I am), but the next class didn’t start until March, and I didn’t want to wait that long. I’m really excited about it, you would think with the full plate I have, and having already completed an AAS, a BA and an MA…I’d be done with school. But I really had the itch to take a course!
After searching around and finding several Montessori courses available, but all for large sums of money, I was starting to think maybe it would be able to happen. I couldn’t justify those kind of funds, when it was really a course ‘just for fun’. I contacted Deb over at Living Montessori Now and she suggested World Wide Montessori online just about the same time I stumbled upon it on my own! It was the answer, for sure!
I have always been intrigued by Montessori, and am looking forward to learning more about it’s principles and how to apply them in our home classroom! Just 2 weeks into the course and I am already collecting tons of great information! And the best thing about it is it’s a go at your own pace course, you have 2.5yrs to gather all the info, so it’s okay that I’m busy with so much other stuff this month!
If you are interested in learning more about Montessori I have three suggestions for you: 1)Check out all the great Montessori Blogs I have listed in my left sidebar. 2)there is a great ebook titled Montessori at Home; it gives tons of great suggestions for applying Montessori principles at home, for the low, low price of $8.95. 3) If you are looking for more than check out World Wide Montessori online; for as low as $150, you get tons and tons of Montessori albums which lay out a wide variety of Montessori activities, principles, etc… It’s a wealth of information, valued at much higher!
(Disclaimer: I do not receive any kickbacks for promoting these books/courses. I did receive a copy of Montessori at Home Free earlier this year. But I do not receive any benefits for your purchases or enrollment of the courses/materials I mentioned in this post).
Congratulations for taking a course...seems like you and I have a lot in common! I am always wanting to take more classes (I have an AA, BA, 2 1/2 MA's)! This is the longest I have been out of school (2 years) and I would love to take a class or 2 again! Good luck and have fun! :)
ReplyDeleteI think learning as adults keeps us sharper and more focused. Montessori is a great program and I look forward to reading more about it. Have a great week!
