Workbox Wednesday

Last week was originally planned for a full week, but we ended up only doing ‘school’ two days.  Tuesday we had our first co-op meeting, so we only had a half day. Wednesday we tried out a preschool co-op for Z. Thursday we prepared for C’s bday party and Friday was a field trip.  So this post will be short.  But that’s what is great about Home School --- Flexibility!  We had a lot of learning going on, just not so much in our work boxes!

Color sorting…I printed some color cards (these are actually from the educationcubes.com website, I accidently printed them too small for the cubes, so I found another use for them).  The tins are magnet spice tins from Ikea that I use to have scrapbooking embellishments in, but am no longer using.  I have them on a cookie sheet.  I was originally planning to make a counting game with them, and then thought…”why not use them for other things too”, I dug through our art supplies and pulled out some pom poms, and we have a color sorting game.  If you wanted to add some fine motor to this you could add chopsticks or tweezers.  You could easily use a 6 cup muffin tin as well.

Here is the apricot Costco container again.  This time he has little dinosaur figures for one-to-one correspondence.

  7. I love the versatility of this! Kids often only need color-matching activities for a relatively short period of time, and using something like a muffin tin is so practical! Thanks for linking up with Montessori Monday! I featured your post at the Living Montessori Now Facebook page.

  8. you found some great uses for your 'mistake" and can only imagine more will come along the way. This is a fun way to practice color sorting - adding tweezers or things would be great for dexterity too.

thanks for sharing on the Sunday Showcase - can't wait to see what next week brings
