Homeschool Days Events in Maryland!

Maryland Science Center in Baltimore holds homeschool days/classes twice a year for several weeks each time.  The first is in September.  You must call at a designated time to reserve and pay for your desired classes.  Class prices are affordable, and admission is free for the rest of the family, even if just ONE child is taking a class.  They also offer admission without classes for $4 (I believe).  They have lots of exhibits, a planetarium, and IMAX theater and the classes were great too!  Classes and IMAX shows vary by day (IMAX is an additional cost). You do have to pay for parking (which is a downfall with most places in Baltimore), but you can receive a stamped voucher for a discount, and there is a parking garage just across the street.

Port Discovery in Baltimore also holds homeschool days.  It consists of a discounted rate, which is even more discounted for groups of 10 or more.  We purchased a season pass from Groupon (or similar site).  Again you have to pay for parking, there is a parking garage right next door, I suggest using Parking Panda to get a cheaper rate.  Port Discovery has lots of hands on activities, and they have one exhibit that changes frequently.  We’ve only been once though, so I think in the future we will just go during homeschool days.

Historic St. Mary’s City hosts homeschool days twice a year.  This is a living history field trip.  The cost is $5 per student, one adult is free (for up to 10 students).  They had little presentations at each location, and also had some crafts/games set up at various points.

Rose Hill Manor also has homeschool days, you need to watch the Frederick Recreator for them in the Fall and Spring.  They had activities set up through out the property as well and is a living history tour.

The Maryland Zoo allows Homeschoolers FREE entrance if scheduled a minimum of 2 weeks in advance and they must be MD residents and show proof of homeschooling.  1 adult is free with every 4 children.  They also offer homeschool classes, these are a bit more pricey ($15 per class or $75 for the series of 6 classes).  Students only are allowed in class, parents are asked to wait outside or can explore the zoo.  It doesn’t state if there is a charge for younger sibling non-participants or parents, children under 2 are always FREE.  The Zoo has on site FREE parking.  We had a pass (before I knew about the FREE days), pass holders receive free entrance to a few other locations during winter months, like B&O Railroad Museum and Industry Museum.

The National Aquarium provides homeschool classes the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month October through February.  The classes are $15 per child per class or $60 for the series of 5 classes for MD residents. One adult is free for up to 5 students.  It’s unclear as to whether or not younger siblings receive a discount or are FREE.  Children under 2 are always FREE.   The Aquarium does not have onsite parking, so you must pay parking at a nearby parking garage.  Again, check out Panda Parking, you can also get $3 off at the closest garage with validation.   National Aquarium also has half price Friday nights after 5pm if you live nearby!

The Baltimore Museum of Industry has homeschool day events a few times a year.  We have attended a few classes here, and they are a lot of fun.  Kids 6 and under are always FREE (unless you register them for a homeschool class).  Parent is free if child is registered for a class.
