10 Favorite Field Trips in Tennessee and Locations with Homeschool Discounts (31 Days of Field Trips Series) with Link Up

Field Trips Tennessee

The First Center for the Visual Arts – Admission for 18 and under is FREE!  My Blessed Life blogged about their visit.

Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage – This location offers Homschool Days for reduced rates on specific days.  According to My Blessed Life it is also FREE to all on January 8th in remembrance of The Battle of New Orleans.  Children under 5 are always FREE.

Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area -  A living history, 1850s farm!  Tickets are very affordable (ages 13+ $5 each, 5-12 $3 and 4 and under FREE).  Every Wednesday in April are FREE (with admission) workshops on life skills for children.  Other special events are held throughout the year (some with fee increase).  Serving Joyfully blogged about their visit.  The entire month of July is themed “Portal to the Past”.

Cheekwood Art & Gardens – Admission is FREE for homeschoolers in groups of 15 or more if scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance through the Education Department.  Tours are available Tues-Friday.  If you are going solo, adults are $14 and youth are $7 (only 2 and under are FREE).  Current Military ID holders can receive a 50% discount.  My Blessed Life blogged about their visit for Homeschool Day. No Homeschool Dates are listed currently, but check their calendar come fall!

Mountain Farm Museum and Mingus Mill – part of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this location has historical buildings, walking trails and a visitor’s center.  Entrance to the park is FREE!  Mountain of Grace Homeschooling blogged about their visit.

Nashville Zoo – This zoo offers homeschool classes, the cost of classes are $13 for nonmembers and $6 for members.  It is stated that siblings and parents can explore the zoo during class, but doesn’t state if a discounted fee is charged for entrance. It may be beneficial to buy a membership in this case, as parking is free with membership, as well as entrance and discounted classes.  Membership is $80-120+ depending on the size of your family and how many adults or guests you want. There are several other perks included with membership, aside from FREE parking and admission.  You also receive discounts on entrance to over 170 zoos and aquariums nationwide, special events (free or at a huge discount), 10% discount on concessions and retail purchases at the zoo.  For me and my 4 children (one under 2) the cost would be $45 plus $5 parking, so 2 visits and the pass has paid for itself.  You can hear from Our 4 Kiddos who visited there!

Discovery Park of America - Visit Discovery Park of America
My Blessed Life blogs about their visit as well!

Adventure Science Center – offers family lab days (homeschool classes), discount group rates and reasonable membership fees with other perks (pays for itself after two visits).  You can read about the experience from Kathy’s Cluttered Mind and My Blessed Life.

Graceland – They do not offer any homeschooling perks (that I could see), but if you are a fan of Elvis this is a must see!  Campfires and Cleats can tell you all about their tour!

Titanic Museum – I know this is on my list to see! They offer homeschool rates on select dates with advance reservations.  Kathy’s Cluttered Mind blogs about their experience there.
