Book Review: Real Life Press: The Busy Homeschool Mom’s Guide to Romance (TOS Review)

Guide to Romance_zpshbbmjaqq

The Busy Homeschool Mom's Guide to Romance by Real Life Press was not exactly what I thought it would be.  It was so much more!  I didn’t realize how much I needed this book!  It came into my life at the perfect time!

It’s hard to give a review of a book without giving away the book, but I’ll try my best.  This book has some great advice on how to nurture your marriage while being a homeschool mom.  As a homeschool mom, it quite easily becomes your life, the kids, the planning, the little bit of time you have left for cleaning.  How easy it is to put our marriage on the back burner.  This book really helps bring your marriage to the fore front.

This is from a Christian perspective.  The author is a minister’s wife, and Bible versus are used.  I can’t say that these were things I didn’t know, but they were great reminders.  I think to often, life happens, and sometimes the things most important to us, just pass us by.  Without realizing it, we allow important things to be placed on the back burner. This book was a great reminder to me, to put first things first!

Chapter 7 – Parallel Lives was probably my favorite chapter.

“Have you ever looked at parallel lines?  They run alongside each other, exactly the same distance apart, for their entire existence.  In marriage, parallel lives are what happen to a husband and his wife when their lives do not intersect.”

Sometimes that happens, and you don’t even realize it.  Reading that chapter (and other parts of this book) was a light bulb moment for me.

I’m happily married, that’s not what I’m saying, but I do find that we go through motions every day and many of days our lines do not intersect, not even slightly.  It’s really easy to get into routines…he is at work all day, I’m at home.  When he gets home, I want a break…he takes the kids.  Kids go to bed, I have things I need to do, he has things he needs to do.  Then it’s bedtime, we are tired, we go to sleep, he wakes up early and the entire day starts again the same way it was the day before.

This book was a great reminder to me, it helped to pinpoint areas in my marriage that can use work, even when your relationship seems to be perfectly fine, there is always room for improvement, right?  No relationship is perfect, no one is perfect.

I appreciated the way this book spoke to me, and I’m sure it will do the same for you!

This book is available in printed or ebook form.
