Review: Richard Scarry’s Great Big Schoolhouse Readers with GIVEAWAY!

scarry giveaway
It was so much fun to be able to share Richard Scarry’s Great Big Schoolhouse Readers with my kids!  These books will be added to the collection of Richard Scarry Readers by Sterling Publishing in February.
Snow Dance is a level 1 reader.  It is filled with beautiful illustrations.  It has repetitive and rhyming words, which make up this fun filled story.  If your child is familiar with Richard Scarry already; the characters will be quite familiar.  If the are not, the story will still be very enjoyable!  In this story Huckle receives a new sled, but since there is no snow….he comes up with some crazy plans to use it.  With the help of his friends he executes his plans, which don’t work out so well.
This is a great book to spark conversation about snow, how it’s made, where it comes from….and a great time of year to include it in your beginner readers library!  You can also have fun predicting with your child about Huckle’s ideas and what s/he thinks will happen.

One, Two, AH-CHOO! is a level 2 reader.  It too includes repetition, but has more words, longer sentences and more punctuation (like quotations).  Also beautifully illustrated with those famous and loveable Richard Scarry characters.  This story starts with Sally Cat having a cold, Huckle is taking care of her.  Throughout the book Huckle comes across many friends who all have colds, until finally Huckle gets a cold himself!
This is a great book to include in a unit about germs!!!  Talk about hand washing and other preventative measures one can take to avoid spreading germs and getting germs from others!
Experiment Idea:  You can use glitter to teach good hand washing skills and demonstrate how germs cling to our skins (especially on our hands)!  It’s a great visual tool (We all know how much glitter sticks to things!)
You can find other books in book stores everywhere and online at Barnes&Noble.  Hardcover books are marked at $12.95, Paperback at $3.95; however, prices may vary on location.  Level 1 books are recommended for children ages 4-5, and Level 2 books are recommended for children ages 5-6.  Ages may vary based on reading levels.  Each book contains 24pgs.
Snow Dance and One, Two, AH-CHOO are available for PRE-Order for $9.82 each at Barnes&Noble ONLINE.
Now the best part of this whole blog is that ONE of my readers can win these awesome books!  Please enter using the Rafflecopter entry form below!  Good luck!
