Math Monday

We had some fun with Education Cubes and candy corns this last week!  And the good news is that these are not Halloween specific games, use them any time this fall!

We used 2 cubes and the counting dots cards up to 12, to play this candy corn game.

We used letters A-F and numbers 1-6 in two cubes to play this Grid game.

We used the numbers 1-6 and some pumpkin seeds and a pumpkin math mat for this fun addition game.  We rolled the dice for each pumpkin and put the number of seeds in it, then wrote the numbers, and added them up and wrote the answer.
Some more pumpkin math activities that we did were ordering the pumpkin numbers and practicing writing numbers 1-20 with the templates provided HERE

And one more education cube activity we did this week (not a math activity), I used the blank template and cut these Halloween movement cards down to fit them.  Then we rolled the dice and did what it said!  (Sorry no action pictures), but the kids were all over the house with this game!

Pumpkin Float or Sink

I used this Spooktacular Curriculum from Currclick for this activity and it includes several others as well!

Pumpkin Float or Sink –
(Not just a Halloween related activity, it can fit into any FALL theme!)

Using a Pumpkin and several other fruits and vegetables, we predicted which ones would sink or float, and then talked about why.

An Egyptian snack - Palace Bread – this was SOOO sweet, we had a ton leftover, the kids loved it, but I couldn’t handle the sweetness.  I suggest halving the recipe.  Recipe from A Trip Around the World (used in Expedition Earth Curriculum)

Field Trip Friday!

Pumpkin Patch – Hawaii Style
Well one thing is for sure that the pumpkin patch is NOT the same here in Hawaii, the hubs and I were greatly disappointed, but the kids had fun, so that’s all that matters, right??!!

C was mad because he was only allowed to pick from the small pumpkins (that’s what are fee included), but he eventually found one he liked.  The pumpkins were shipped in from CA, and they put them out to the field for pickers, then bring them back in again so they do not rot with the rain…  We were really hoping that they grew them so we could get some seed for our own, we did manage to grow one this year, but the vine died out and we had to harvest it early.
