Still Waiting

Battery is still on back order. I'm hopeful for delivery this week. I could use the laptop with the plug in, but because the battery was dead, the computer suddenly turning off caused software damage. I also had a ton of malware on my laptop, the repair guy said I broke a record...scary! So, a warning, consider investing in malware protection, it's seperate from virus protection. Just in case you didn't know. I will be subscribing. On another note, we are settling into the house, our household goods took 6wks to arrive to MD from HI! I have to say living was simpler before our stuff got here, we have A LOT of stuff, and trying to find a spot for everything is stressful! Not having a laptop has been somewhat freeing, but also adds to the stress level. Blogging is my outlet, the thing I do that's MINE, and well. I've been at a stand still now for going on two weeks!! (Possibly more, I lost count). Stay tuned though, even though the blog has been at a halt, I have been working on reviews and some fun units to share with everyone! I now have wifi, and am using my iPad to post this, although it's easier to type on then my phone, it's still not ideal. I have a keyboard for it somewhere.....that's the story of everything I ''need" these days. Ugh!

I was diagnosis end with adjustment disorder when I was medically discharged for the military about 10yrs ago, I honestly forget about it, until if have some big adjustments to make and it rears it's ugly head! So moving is a rough transition, but this too shall past and soon we will be settled. I'm thankful to have family nearby who are lending helping hands. Moving with little ones was so much simpler. As soon as I organize an area they disorganized it. HA!

I'll be sure to post pictures of my great spaces, once they become great!

In the meantime this is my schoolroom...yikes!
We have been doing the bare minimum of school most days, and there was some huge mixup with the delivery of our math book and it has still not arrived. Hopefully things will be situated soon, I don't do well with chaos!!

Favorite Apps for Math

Madagascar Math Ops

Do you have an Angry Birds fan?  My 7yo is Angry Birds crazed, and could spend hours of mindless play of the game, which I refuse to allow.  Then I found this game!  Similar in concept to Angry Birds you have to launch penguins to free the animals, but FIRST you must solve some math problems!  They have problems geared towards 1st – 4th graders.  Parents can also go in and get report cards of their child’s progress in the math department.  Loads of fun!

Math Slicer

Fruit Ninja fan?  Math slicer is a fun way to to practice those math facts!  It has addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  Slice through the correct answer, slice any eggs that pop up, get points and ‘buy’ prizes.

Monkey Math School

A fun math game for the younger guys.  Great for PreK-K age group.  This app works on counting objects, patterns and other problems solving.  Monkey Preschool Lunchbox is a favorite of ours for the little guys, and this app is just as great!

Day 2 of 5 Days of our Favorite Educational Apps

day 2

Favorite Apps for History and Geography

iPhone Screenshot 1

President’s vs Aliens

This game asks multiple choice trivia questions about the President’s of the United States throughout history, you earn rewards and use them to defeat the aliens that are attacking Washington.  Okay, it’s silly…but they are learning!  I have to admit I have learned as well, my son asks me the questions he doesn’t know, and we learn together!  It’s amazing how many president’s I had never even heard of!!

Stack the States

Another great quiz game!  Learn to identify shapes by states, location, what their capital is, etc.  Then try to stack the shapes on top of each other to reach past the indicated line!  My 7yo has a blast with this game!

After San Francisco we headed north on the 101 down the Avenue of the Giants.  Unfortunately for us, it rained the entire way.  But, that didn’t stop us from getting out at one point, Q and the boys did a bit of exploring while K and I stayed dry in the rental van.  These trees are just HUMONGOUS!!
2014-03-09 17.09.52
The kids were excited to put on their ‘winter’ coats.  Everyday was like Christmas with a new outfit to wear, since we had lived in Hawaii for the last 3yrs we had ZERO for cold weather gear.  I hit up Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.

That night we stayed in Fortuna, CA.  Our time clocks were still all screwed up, so we were all awake around 11pm when we got to experience our first EARTHQUAKE!  That was exciting! (and a tad unsettling)

The following morning we hit the Fortuna Cheese Factory, Loleta Cheese, first thing before our long journey to my MILs house.
They got to see cheese being made, taste several varieties and then do a scavenger hunt in the garden outside.  It was a good way to start the day and burn off that early morning energy before the long drive.

cheese

We had a beautiful drive going further north (my MIL lives just south of the Oregon border), and the kids got to play in the snow for the first time. (well the older two have seen snow, but that was 3years ago…I think only C remembers it).

101 scenes

The fun soon ended in tears from cold hands (something they have never experienced before), I should have videoed that part! It didn’t deter them though; they were hopeful to see snow again (though we didn’t until we got to VA), ironically.

They had a blast exploring the wide open spaces of ranching country while at Grandma’s house.  c, who loves animals, had a great time seeing the buffalo, cows, dogs, horses, chickens, etc…  We also found a beaver dam, though we did not see any beaver.

ranch

After spending time at the in-law’s for a few days we headed to Nevada – that’s up next week!
